Alghero is not only a touristic city: a lot of people live here all over the year, that’s why there are different choices to eat for every pocket and taste!

Reservation is recommended in Summer. Some of the restaurant indicated might be closed in Winter.

MORE EXPENSIVE RESTAURANTS

  • MABROUK (Via Santa Barbara, 4) typical city centre place and kitchen if you want to have a big dinner based on fish that’s the place! There is a fix menu you won’t regret. Only for dinner, with reservation.
  • AL TUGURI by Francesco Pais (Via Majorca 113-117) is one of the historic and most charming addresses in the center of Alghero, with exposed stone walls and a panoramic terrace overlooking the rooftops of the old town. The chef uses top-quality ingredients such as the catch of the day, locally sourced produce, and ingredients from his own biodynamic garden.
  • MUSCIORA (Via Giuseppe Mazzini, 77) awarded by Alessandro Borghese's "4 Restaurants" program as the best Sardinian-Catalan restaurant in Alghero, offers an extraordinary culinary experience that combines tradition and innovation with refined dishes and unique flavors of the area.

  • VECCHIO MULINO (via Don Deroma 3): cheap and characteristic restaurant in the heart of the old town: “spaghetti alle vongole” is one of the best dishes!
  • TRATTORIA CARAGOL di Antonio & Maurizia (via Majorca, 69) well-known for homemade pasta, typical appetizers, traditional desserts.
  • LA BOQUERIA  (Central Market via Sassari) Located inside the fish Market, with good fish and oysters (also open in winter).

litte outside city centre: 

  • TRATTORIA MARISTELLA  (via Fratelli Kennedy 9) a well reviewed “trattoria” with excellent fish (we would suggest risotto alla pescatora for 2).
  • IL PESCE D'ORO (via Catalogna 12)  well known restaurant for quality and price: good fish and sea fruits.
  • RISTORANTE PIZZERIA ARAGON (via Gramsci 8) Pizza, fish and typical Sardinian meals, good balance between quality and price, very good paella!
  • POCOLOCO (via Gramsci, 8)  a big place for families and groups but even for couples, you can have pizza and different dishes. During winter time in the weekend you can also find jazz concert and music set.

  • RISTORANTE PIZZERA LU FURAT (Via Columbano, 8) very typical food in the old town, well known for pizzas
  • RISTORANTE PIZZERIA EL PULTAL (via Columbano, 40) good quality with a very nice terrace on the roof top, well known for pizzas. 
  • PIZZERIA IL PICCOLO LIDO (via Garibaldi 7) in front of the port with outdoor tables: pizzas, good quality seafood and fish platters and various salads
  • PIZZERIA IL POMMODORO (via XX Settembre 150)  outside the historic center but its pizza worths the trip!
  • Other good pizzerias: BELLA NAPOLI (Piazza Civica 29), and LES ARENES (via Lido 73) next to the Lido beach.

AGRITURISMI AND LITTLE RESTAURANT ON THE BEACH:

  • SA MANDRA   if you want to taste the typical Sardinian food, this "agriturismo" offers an excellent menu with many courses of local cuisine. Fix menu (price 35€)
     
  • BAR TRATTORIA DELLE NINFE   a nice place in Mugoni Beach run by Raffaele. Homemade fried potatoes, parmigiana aubergine and special Panadas (little meat or vegetable pies)

TO SAVE MONEY / FOR A QUICK LUNCH / TO TAKE AWAY

  • IL MILESE (Via Garibaldi)  since 1971 this bar has served sandwiches and salads on the main boulevard of Alghero. It is famous for its fresh focaccias with a variety of fillings. Try their most popular “Focaccia del Milese” with fresh tomatoes, tuna, hard-boiled eggs, anchovies, rocket salad, onions, pancetta (cured belly of pork) and a special sauce made from a secret recipe. It’s a must in Alghero you cannot miss!
     
  • TAVOLA CALDA DA BRUNO (via Mazzini 69)   if you want to eat homemade dishes at fair price this is fantastic place to go. You can seat or take away your food (open just for lunch).

GROCERY SHOPPING

  • Mercato Civico (via Sassari)   is the historical civic market of Alghero specialized in fresh fish, local food, season fruit and vegetables. Inside the fish market there are also a butcher’s shop and a small food store with local products. You can also have a lunch based on fish here just a few minutes walking from the house.
     
  • Wednesday city Market   is an appointment that residents and tourists rarely miss. A lot of stalls snake along viale Europa, in the Lido area, with in-season fruit and vegetables, cheeses, cured meats and other typical products, but no stalls of meats and fish. Apart from food you can find everything you need: new and used clothing, home furnishings, leather goods, books, toys etc.

 

MARKET IN THE HISTORIC CENTRE

  • Carrefour Express (Via Roma 50) is open daily and is ideal for a quick yet complete shopping experience.
  • Cinzia Market (Via Carlo Alberto 121) offers typical Sardinian products and local delis, located in the historic center of Alghero. It offers quality and affordable cured meats, cheeses, wines, and desserts.
  • La Bottega di Tommy (Via Gilbert Ferret, 76) is a quaint shop offering excellent food and wine and local street food, where you can purchase or eat on-site. A wide selection of wines and cured meats.

 

BIG supermarkets near the HISTORICAL CENTER

  • Eurospin at the public gardens (Via La Marmora 26) 
  • Delta Coop  (via Sassari 45) you can ask for home delivery
  • Bigger markets and discounts are mostly at the entrance of Alghero (in the Olmedo direction) in Via XX Settembre (CONAD, MAURYS etc.) and Via Vittorio Emanuele II (LIDL); many others are located in Via Don Minzoni (beaches and airport direction).

 

Typical bakeries

  • La Nicchia dei Sapori (via Mazzini 17) bakery with special breads (made with Senatore Cappelli wheat, turmeric, or corn flour), traditional Algherese and Sardinian sweets (tiricche, papassini, amaretti), and a carefully selected range of wines.
  • Da Bakery (Artisan Focacceria) (via Mazzini 29) Genoese focaccia, pizza by the slice, vegan products.

 

CAFÈ, PASTRIES & ICECREAM

  • CIRO  one of the best bar/pasticceria for having breakfast or enjoying a superb coffee. They have a huge selection of cakes, sweets and cookies, some of them are local specialties. Do not miss crema bruciata pastry & pinolata ice cream!
  • BON BONS, (Via Mazzini 11 near Largo San Francesco at the corner with via Sassari) one of the best pastry in Alghero. You can find traditional sardinian pastries: menjar blanc in shortcrustpastry, formaggelle, papassini, tiricche, and other delicious sweets. They are well organised also for sending its sweets abroad. You have to try it!
  • PASTICCERIA ROBERTO MURGIA: when you enter the pastry shop you could wonder if  Roberto is a pastry chef or an artist:  inspired by the Sardinian tradition he creates delicious  embroideries, architectures, triumphs of colors and special flavours. Absolutely to visit: his sweets are a souvenir of Sardinia to take home.
  • ANGELINA DOLCI IN PIAZZA CIVICA (Piazza Civica, 40) Home made delicious local sweet
  • CAFFE' COSTANTINO   on the ground floor of the noble Palazzo d’Albis, this traditional and old café is classy and stylish, its terrace on piazza Civica is attractive to have a good nightcap or a cappuccino.
  • AL CAFFERINO via Cagliari 4, in the Public Gardens very nice and fresh location to have your italian breakfast and social life before going to the sea
  • BAR IN CENTRO: it is not a fancy place but a very typical and old cafe close to the fish market. During the day you can find fishermen and old people; in the evening it’s full of young people. Cheap, good choice of beers and local atmosphere.
